The connection in made with a cable having connector on both end. one end plugs into the computer and is same across all the USB cables while the other end plugs into the mobile device and can be of various type such as miniUSB, microUSB, or proprietary connector.
A group of seven companies began the development of USB in 1994: Compaq, DEC, IBM, Intel, Microsoft , NEC and Nortel. A team including Ajay Bhatt worked on the standard at the Intel: developed the first integrated circuits supporting USB which were produced by Intel in 1995
- USB 1.X: (JAN, 1996) specified data rate of 1.5Mbps(low-bandwith) and 12Mbps(full-bandwidth).
- USB 2.0: (April, 2000) added higher maximum singnaling rate of 480Mbps.
- USB 3.0: (Nov. 2008) the standard claims a theoretical maximum transmission speed , up to 5Gbit/s (625 Mbps)
