Upgrade Windows 8 to Windows 8.1

The Microsoft has recently released  the final build Windows 8.1 last month, the new Windows 8.1 is the updated version of Windows 8, has some new features which lacked in windows 8 like "Start Button",also gives more personalizing option, inbuilt cloud storage , full screen Internet Explorer 11.

The upgradation from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 is free of cost and can be done by two ways first by installing a windows 8.1 ISO or by updating directly through Windows Store itself.
(To install Windows 8.1 update through the Windows Store, your Computer must be running Windows 8).

The system requirements
  • Processor: 1 GHz or Faster
  • RAM: 1 GB (32-bit) and 2 GB (64-bit)
  • Hard Disk: 16 GB(32- bit) and 20 GB(64-bit)
  • Graphics card: Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM drive.
  1. Before updating your PC backup your files to be save and set up file history.
  2. Make sure that you have enough free space on your hard disk as upto 3 GB more space will be required to install 32 bit Windows 8.1 and upto 3.6 GB for 64 bit Windows 8.1.
  3.  The must have an internet connection to download update.( a good internet speed is preferred.)
  4. Temporarily turn off your antivirus other than Microsoft Security Essential, some antivirus might interfere while Windows 8.1 installation, and turn it on your antivirus after the installation.  
  5.  Now your are ready for update. Go to windows 8 start screen and click on  Windows Store  
  6. In the Store click on the Windows 8.1 update. then click Download.
  7. The update will start downloading and installing in the background.
  8. Keep your PC on, plugged in to power source and connected to internet, in the meanwhile during the download you can use your PC. 
  9. Once the update downloaded, your PC will be asked for Restart, you will get the option of Restarting it Now or Restarting after 15 minutes.
  10. The restarting can take 40 minutes to 50 minutes  while the updates will be applied.
  11. After the restart you will be presented with Microsoft license term and conditions - Click on "I accept".
  12. Now click on "Use Express Setting " and if you want customize setting click on "Customize".
  13. Sign in using Microsoft account click next, the SkyDrive cloud storage will appear,(you can chose Synchronize setting to sync from your existing PC to this one), click next for default SkyDrive setting.
  14.  Now you are ready to use your Windows 8.1.
Note: the same step should be followed to update Windows 8 RT to Windows 8.1 RT.
