AIRPOD

The AIRPOD is a three-wheel  car that runs on the compressed air.

AIRPod is a prototype of an alternative fuel vehicle produced by Motor Development International. (MDI) and will be the first to leave the production line. It is designed as an zero-emission urban vehicle. It can be driven with a joystick,it can cost one euro(65-70 Rs) per 200km.

The car body/chassis is made of composite sandwich (glass fiber/ polyurethane form). The car weigh around 220 kg. Car's engine produces a  maximum torque  of 15Nm and is powered by a tank of compressed air ( which is a glass or carbon-fiber tank, holding 80Kg of air compressed to 300bars), which can be refilled through a charging station or taken in while driving with the help of an electric engine. The car has regenerative brakes which can recapture some energy during braking and store it in a battery.

The gear changes are automatic, powered by electronic system developed by MDI. The maximum speed it can attained is 70km/h.and refueling time is only 1.5 minute. It will have a range of around 160-300 km between refuels. It mileage is about double that of the most advance electric car (200 to 300km or 10 hours of driving ), a factor which makes a perfect choice in cities where 80% of motorists drive at least than 60 Km.

REFUELING

The AIRPod come in three models that with varying number of seats and amount of cargo storage while keeping the same basic chassis; AIRPod, AIRPod cargo, AIRPod Baby.
  • AIRPod is the standard version and is designed for the transport of the persons. It is  four seated ( 3 adults and 1 child) and a luggage space. It is dedicated to multiple users as in private and public sectors.
  •  AIRPod Cargo is a single seated carriage version which has a load volume greater than one meter cube, providing it with large cargo space. The vehicle is designed for delivering cargo for The Post , factory handling etc
  •  AIRPod Baby is two seated with a chest of more than 500 liters, all for less than 1,80m long. The model has been created keeping in mind the most congested cities by traffic.
India based car maker TATA and Luxembourg's(Europe) MDI have joined forces to create the world's first air powered car. MDI signed a licensing agreement with TATA in early 2007 since then they are working on a product that could go to market.
