Woofer

Woofer is a device commonly used for a loudspeaker driver designed to produce low frequency sounds, typically from around 40 hertz up to about a kilohertz or higher.

Woofers can be made out of many different materials including reinforced paper, polypropylene, Kevlar, carbon or aluminum. Each material provides a slightly different effect or sound.

The first woofer was developed during the 1960s by Ken Kreisel .

There are two types of woofers: passive and active. Passive woofers are powered by an external power amp, whereas active woofers have a built-in amplifier.
